"If you haven't seen all the recent hype on Oculus Rift, including a cover story in Wired: it seems as if a few young kids didn't get the memo that everyone gave up on the category of virtual reality. They have created a helmet - coming this Christmas - that, among other things, is predicted to make short work of Google Glass.
Forget about scanning Gmail out of the corner of your eye while walking through a mall; Oculus is going to plunge you into a 360-degree, sonically, optically, vertiginously real-feeling landscape of zombie-killing, bad-guy-shooting - all those exerting tasks that video games are made of." ~ Matthew Wilder in "Virtual Reality is the Evolution of Storytelling," Breakthrough, July 12, 2014
In session 4, we'll look at immersive, interactive formats and virtual reality technology. In particular, we'll investigate Oculus Rift and how their technology is transforming the virtual reality landscape.
While 35-45 minutes will be devoted to an overview of virtual reality, the remainder of the session will be dedicated to the transmedia formats being developed in the lab.

"...Oculus has found a way to make a headset that does more than just hang a big screen in front of your face. By combining stereoscopic 3-D, 360-degree visuals, and a wide field of view - along with a supersize dose of engineering and software magic - it hacks your visual cortex.
As far as your brain is concerned, there's no difference between experiencing something on the Rift and experiencing it in the real world." ~ Peter Rubin, The Inside Story of Oculus Rift and How Virtual Reality Became Reality on Wired.
